Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy declared after Monday night’s practice that the five starters on offensive line in the practice will start in Friday’s preseason game at Arizona.

The declaration thus ended competition between Jason Spitz and Scott Wells for starting center, and Allen Barbre’s competition with Breno Giacomini for starting right tackle. Together with Spitz and Barbre, veteran left tackle Chad Clifton, left guard Daryn Colledge and right guard Josh Sitton will also start in Friday night’s exhibition game.

Such decision was made upon injuries. Wells lost the competition because he required shoulder surgery and Giacomini lost for ankle surgery. That was why Spitz, who started at right guard for most of his first three NFL seasons, spent the whole offseason practicing as a center.

McCarthy said that the five will be final decision of offensive line starters “if they keep progressing”. But if not, the team will still select other players through new competition.
